Trees and forests in the Reading Room
Trees and books go hand in hand. In Latin, liber means both book and bark, while trees and forests have inhabited the human mind and imagination since time immemorial.
The Reading Room explores these intertwinings from the Middle Ages to the present day. Symbols of life, knowledge and freedom, personified in fables, orchards for poets and lovers, and forests in tales and legends, living resources in increasingly short supply, trees bring an added touch of magic to the Reading Room throughout summer.
