Themed tour - Spotlight on women
A tour exclusively dedicated to female figures: idealized, mothers, patrons, influential women, or artists, what place is given to women in the Condé Museum’s collections ?
A Different Perspective on the Women of the Condé Museum
Often deified, celebrated as symbols of elegance and beauty, muses, or objects of devotion, women have inspired countless works throughout the history of art. But these images are very often the product of the male gaze, as women have long remained models rather than creators.
This tour invites visitors to take a critical look at these representations : how, and from whose perspective are women depicted ? What do these works reveal about the society that produced them?
Women Who Matter
Beyond idealized figures, the tour highlights those whose importance is sometimes overlooked: women in power, patrons, influential figures who shaped art history, and women artists who, later on, rose to the rank of creators on equal footing with men. A sensitive and nuanced exploration of the collections, inviting everyone to observe, reflect, and form their own opinions.
