On the face of it, you wouldn’t expect to find any Napoleonic memorabilia at the Musée Condé, a museum named after the Princes of Condé, given that this dynasty’s last representative, the Duc d’Enghien, was shot on the orders of Napoleon, (who was First Consul at the time).
Yet, following in the reconciliatory footsteps of his father, King Louis-Philippe, the Duc d’Aumale took an interest in Napoleon and his history, and collected performances, historical memorabilia, archives and works, many of which are little known or have never been shown to the public.
While Caroline Murat will be showcased at the Jeu de Paume, the Cabinet des Livres will display the little-known and sometimes extraordinary memorabilia of her illustrious brother. Curators: Mathieu Deldicque, Head Curator of Heritage,Director of the Musée Condé and Florent Picouleau, Head of Archives at the Musée Condé.
