The year is 1900. The Paris Exposition and the second Summer Olympic Games have brought the world to the streets of the French capital, which echo with the hooves of more than 80,000 horses! As you set out to explore Paris in the exhilarating company of Madame, an eccentric artist, you discover a city crowded with carriages, trams, side-saddle riders, and inexperienced coachmen.
Follow Madame as she shops, eats in restaurants, walks in the woods, and, of course, visits the circus and a cabaret – the finest entertainment Belle Époque Paris has to offer!
Let the horsewomen of the Compagnie Equestre du Château de Chantilly, joined by a mime artist, an aerial acrobat, a vaulter, and the horses, donkeys, and ponies of the Great Stables, transport you to the thronged streets of Paris at the dawn of the twentieth century.
Experience an exhilarating hour in Madame’s world as you marvel at a dazzling array of equestrian disciplines beneath the dome of the Great Stables, from carriage driving and rênes à la ceinture (riding with belt-attached reins), to haute école dressage, acrobatics, vaulting, and equestrian fantasia.
In a time when wooden clogs still echoed through Paris, where the Belle Époque radiated luxury and elegance, Madame, still dressed in her finest, lets herself be swept along in this urban waltz. The sumptuous costumes designed by Monika Mucha contribute to this total immersion in the Olympic year of 1900, dressing up the show with a historical refinement that amazes young and old alike.
But as night falls, the pace slows down, only to be reinvented. Because Madame is an artist, and when evening comes, she prepares for the stage. Dimmed lights, velvet curtains and piano notes: Madame sings, offering the audience a final moment of grace, between nostalgia and brilliance, in a dream Paris where the horse is still king.
An intense hour of entertainment featuring a wide range of equestrian disciplines under the dome of the Great Stables of Chantilly.
